Now that you have created your Chart you are able to do a number of things to change the visual display.
Basic Options:
When viewing your newly created chart you will notice three basic option in the widget. Once you hover your mouse into the widget more options will appear. These will be explained further down this article.
The three basic options are:
- Settings Cog - This will take you back into the Chart configuration
- Trash Can - This will delete the chart
- Resizing Icon - This appears in the bottom right hand corner of the widget and is used to resize the widget to the desire size
How to resize the widget:
To resize the widget hover your mouse over the bottom left hand corner until the cursor changes into a double sided arrow.
After this, simply drag until the widget is the desired size (a visual indication of how big the widget will become is shown below).
Moving a chart:
To move a chart, simply click on the chart and drag it into the desired spot. Please note that you are currently unable to move a chart from one page to another.
Widget Options:
Now that the widget is the desired size there are a number of additional features within the widget to help you view the data. Bring you mouse over the widget and the following options should appear depending on the chart type. Please note some chart, such as a Pie Chart have limited options.
Download Plot as PNG:
The first option is a camera icon. This feature allows you to generate a PNG file of the chart. Click the camera icon and the file should automatically download.
Zoom:
When zoom is selected, your cursor will change to a cross when in the chart. This allows you to highlight the data range you want to zoom in on.
The zoom tool in action:
Once you are happy with the range you want to zoom in on simply release the cursor and the data chart will show only the data and range you selected:
Simply double click in the chart to zoom back out to the original view.
Pan:
Pan, as the name suggests, allows you to pan through the chart data. This is particularly useful tool for a chart with a lot of information on it so you can 'explore'.
Click and hold your mouse to explore the data. Double-click anywhere to return to the original view.
Box Select:
Box Select allows you to click and drag over parts of the graph you wish to emphasize. Once you have made your selection, click the box select again to remove the outline of the box and the graph will display as shown below.
To revert back to the original graph double click on the data or select the box select again and highlight the whole graph.
Lasso Select:
The Lasso select works as the box select does, it is used to emphasize the data. The lasso allows you to move the shape freely so you can avoid different areas of the chart without having to include all parts of the chart as the box select would (see below). After selecting your first part of the graph to highlight hold down SHIFT to also highlight another area.
Zoom In/Out:
You can zoom in and out by clicking on the + and - buttons. Your axes labels will automatically optimize as you zoom in.
Autoscale:
Clicking Autoscale zooms the plot back to a setting that is optimized to include all the viewable data regardless of the Axes Range setting.
Reset axes:
This works the same as autoscale above.
Toggle Spike Lines:
This feature will show a line connecting the values of the data on each axis (see below).
Hover Options:
Clicking Show closest data on hover will display the data for just the one point under the cursor.
Clicking Compare data on hover will show you the data for all points with the same x-value.
